The collection also includes a typescript of W. Curtis Worthington, Jr., M.D.'s comments for the dust jacket of the book and a letter from Dr. Yow to Dr. Worthington thanking him for his comments. The memoirs cover the period from Dr. Yow's childhood in Hampton, South Carolina through her retirement.

Martha Dukes Yow was born in Talbotton, Georgia on January 15, 1922. She graduated from the Medical College of South Carolina in 1943. Dr. Yow completed her medical training at North Carolina Baptist Hospital, the Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Duke University Medical Center, and the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.
